Physical Installation:
-
Use the 5GHz band as the backhaul by selecting a pair of 5GHz outdoor
AP/Bridge with built-in directional antennas like the ENH500 to be set
up as the dedicated wireless backhaul. -
Make sure there is a clear line-of-sight and enough clearance for the
Fresnel zone in between the 5GHz backhaul devices. - Mount the ENH500 to face each other.
-
Connect the remote ENH500 to the LAN port of the Dual-band AP using
Ethernet cable. -
Set some distance between the remote ENH500 and the Dual-band AP to
minimize wireless interference in the 5GHz band.
Recommended Settings:
-
Set both ENH500 in WDS Bridge mode to set up a WDS Bridge-to-WDS Bridge
wireless link. - Select a non-DFS channel preferable channel 149 and above.
-
Both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz radios of the Dual-band AP will be set in
Access Point mode to serve the wireless client devices.
On the 2.4GHz Wireless:
-
A. Perform an AP Scan for other 2.4GHz wifi sources. Note of channels
used and their corresponding signal strengths. -
B. Set the Channel HT mode to 20MHz only and disable Auto-channel. Set
the wireless frequency/channel to the least congested 2.4GHz
non-overlapping channel (1, 6, or 11). - C. WPA2-PSK(AES only) is the recommended wireless security setting.
On the 5Ghz Wireless:
-
A. Perform an AP Scan for other 5GHz wifi sources. Please take note of
the channels used and their corresponding signal strengths. -
B. Disable Auto-channel and set the wireless/frequency to the least
congested non-DFS 5Ghz wireless channel. Select a channel that will not
overlap with the backhaul. If the backhaul is on channel 149 and above,
then perhaps select channel 36. - C. WPA2-PSK(AES only) is the recommended wireless security setting.
Please see attached files for other recommended settings (EnGenius AP Best
Practice Configuration). Also check best practices on deploying point to
point backhaul.
